Velux® America has introduced a residential solar water-heating system to the United States that was previously available only in Europe. Depending on the water volume required, two or three rooftop solar panels will be installed on a home to fill hot water holding tanks of 80 or 120 gallons (about 300 or 450 liters). The use of antifreeze solution makes the system suitable for most colder climates. The solar panels are certified by two independent testing agencies: SRCC (in the U.S.) and Solar Keymark (in Europe).
The Apollo Light Pipe from Orion Energy Systems collects and focuses daylight using highly reflective materials and a patented-design geometric dome. The commercial-grade daylighting device can reduce electricity use, especially when combined in an integrated system with high-intensity fluorescent fixtures and lighting controls. Applied in industrial and commercial settings, the three-part energy management system can allow removal of particular lighting zones from the grid for up to ten hours a day.
