NEW YORK, NY. September 17, 2008 — This fall marks the second year of the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art program in Green Building Design. The Continuing Education Department offers courses and a Certificate in Green Building Design for engineers, architects, developers, designers, and members of allied professions.
Professionals in these fields are increasingly expected to design and build with the efficient and sustainable use of energy, materials, water, daylight, and mechanical systems as high priorities. The regulatory environment, economics, and LEED process will drive design in new and often unforeseeable ways, and the built environment will evolve as a result. The Cooper Union program was developed to assist active professionals in matching their skills to these developing demands.
Cooper Union's courses, taught by leading practitioners in their fields, may be taken individually or as part of the 110-hour Certificate. These courses also meet state and AIA continuing education requirements for architects and engineers and are excellent preparation for those planning to seek LEED Certification.
This fall, the courses offered are:
*Sustainable Design Principles for Buildings and Masterplans.
*The Ecological City.
*Indoor Environmental Quality.
*Daylighting.
*Sustainable Construction Methods.
*Building Electric Power Distribution and Lighting.
*Best Practices for High-Performance Buildings in New York.
*Building Commissioning for LEED Projects.
*Economics and Finance of Energy Efficiency.
